18 - Did the Church Fall Away?
Conley: Riding to and from work, I would think about the conversations we had, especially about the whole church falling away. The bible does not say that all will fall away. In fact, it says just the opposite, that there will always be some who put their faith in God.
Bible: Matthew 16:18. On this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.
Bible: Revelation 20:14. Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire.
Conley: Hades is the first death that is thrown into the lake of fire, the second death. When Jesus said the gates of Hades would not overcome the church, he was not saying that none of the members would suffer the second death, he was saying there would never be a point in time when all the members would be dead. The prophet Elijah once thought he was the only believer left, and that the whole church had left the faith. Paul tells us about it in Romans...
1. Habang ako’y nagbibisikleta papunta sa trabaho at pauwi sa bahay, naiisip ko ang aming tinalakay patungkol sa pagtatalikod sa pananampalataya. 2. Hindi sinasabi sa biblia na ang lahat ay nasitalikod. Sa totoo lang ito’y kabaliktaran, isinasad na patuloy na may nanampalataya sa Diyos. 3. Mateo 16:18 “At sinasabi ko naman sa iyo, na ikaw ay Pedro, at sa ibabaw ng batong ito ay itatayo ko ang aking iglesia; at ang mga pintuan ng Hades ay hindi magsisipanaig laban sa kaniya.” Sa Pahayag 10:19 “At ang kamatayan at ang Hades ay ibinulid sa dagatdagatang apoy. Ito ang ikalawang kamatayan, sa makatuwid ay ang dagatdagatang apoy.” 4. Ang Hades ay ang unang kamatayan na itatapon sa dagatdagatang apoy na pangalawang kamatayan. Nung sinabi ni Jesus patungkol sa pinto ng Hades na hindi susupil sa iglesia, hindi Niya sinasabi walang miyembrong magsasakrepisyo sa ikalawang kamatayan. Ang sinasabi Niya ay hindi mangyayaring ang lahat ng miyembro ay mamamatay. 5. Ang propetang si Elias ay nung minsang nag-isip na siya na lamang ang natitirang nananampalataya at ang lahat ay nagsitalikod. Ito rin ay pinatutuo ni Pablo sa Roma…
